UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation Launches Podcast Miniseries

The UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) has launched a new podcast miniseries, “The State of the World.”

The 30-minute episodes will explore the global implications of China’s rise; the evolving nature of war; the security implications of climate change; and threats to democracy, as well as democratic resilience.

In the first episode, which aired Jan. 15, Susan Shirk and Tai Ming Cheung discuss the state of U.S.-China relations, as a more assertive China and elections in the United States signal a transforming relationship. Shirk is the founding chair of the 21st Century China Center, a research professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego and director emeritus of IGCC. Cheung is the current director of IGCC and a professor at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego. The Institute is based at the School of Global Policy and Strategy at UC San Diego, where several members of the leadership team and a number of researchers are on the faculty.

“The UC system is home to some of the smartest, most creative thinkers in our nation,” says Lindsay Morgan, associate director of IGCC and Talking Policy host. “For 40 years, IGCC has mobilized those voices to provide bipartisan research on the most important challenges of our time and deliver solutions to decision makers. To celebrate that legacy, we wanted to look ahead and educate listeners who may be worried about the state of the world. The issues covered in our series might seem apocalyptic, but our aim is to offer conversations that inform, surprise, and challenge our audience and offer the public tools for how to move forward.”
